What does Corona Virus and toilet paper have in common?
It feels like it is from a movie. People in hysteria, fighting to survive all over what?… Toilet paper? No, it can’t be that.
A few weeks ago a global problem wasn’t even on the mind of United State’s citizens. That problem was Corvid-19 , or affectionally known as Corona Virus. Throughout the world people have been losing loved ones to the deadly virus and it was only their problem until it reached the United States. Fast forward to a few days ago and President Trump has called a state of emergency, sports globally has been suspended and people have started to be on edge.
People in general do not do well with panic. Intelligent human beings revert to primal survival of the fittest and unfortunately, the young and the old are on the chopping block. The same people who were under the principle of “all men are created equal” threw that out of the window when the elite can access the test for Corvid-19 while the rest are to self quarantine out of doubt and fear. For the rest of us who wanted to brace the elements to our local stores, we come to find out that supplies are dwindling on what we perceive is the essential items.
Desperation gains another familiar face as we go isle by isle to see empty shelves. It is not until we see out of the corner of our eye one somewhat familiar off brand wrapper containing the purest of cotton toilet paper we have ever gazed our eyes on in a time like this. You dart to the 4-pack like a mad man and next thing you know you are in a tussle with a stranger over off brand tissue paper. It didn’t have to get like this, and in the grand scheme of things it shouldn’t have gotten like this when it came to the Corona Virus. The Corona Virus has been on our radar for quite some time now, years actually, but after a few mutations we were not able to stop it until a few thousand people and some note worthy people have tested positive for the virus.
So you might be asking yourself what does Corona Virus and toilet paper have in common? Well… for both it is something we see from afar and act upon it until its too late. We have grown up knowing what to do during flu season time after time. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough, stay in bed when you are actually sick and rest… all the good stuff. People typically ignore warnings until the last minute… just like we ignore getting toilet paper until we have ran out of toilet paper. To be frank, storing up toilet paper will not solve our problems… just like fixing the Corona Virus will not solve our problems either. Both toilet paper and Corvid-19 will not get to the means to an end. We as a people should not ignore the warning signs of our health until our health is totally at risk. We have to be honest with ourselves and know when to slow down so our bodies can catch up. Tomorrow is not promise, and so isn’t the your favorite off brand toilet paper.
